Refletimos acerca das tensões e fenômenos invisíveis que nos formam, na esperança de que possamos imaginar outras possibilidades que contemplem a promoção do humano em toda a variedade permitida por essa condição.
A palavra faxina significa uma limpeza que requer um deliberado investimento de tempo e energia muito maior do que a trivial arrumação. Quando se faz uma faxina, há o comprometimento emocional e físico de tirar as coisas dos seus lugares familiares, instalar temporariamente uma zona de caos e desconforto, para que a poeira há muito acumulada seja removida. Há também por parte da faxineira ou faxineiro uma certa preparação para as eventuais surpresas do que poderá ser encontrado debaixo do tapete ou atrás do sofá. Quando pensamos em criar este espaço de diálogo e escrutínio dos processos de formação do humano a partir de narrativas de pessoas excluídas dos holofotes e microfones das mídias dominantes, o ritual da faxina serviu como uma perfeita metáfora para nossas ambições criativas.
O Faxina é o primeiro e único podcast narrativo de língua portuguesa produzido nos EUA, mas especificamente em Massachusetts, onde há a maior comunidade de imigrantes do Brasil, Angola, Cabo Verde e Moçambique da América do Norte. O Faxina traduz seus episódios para o inglês com o compromisso de honrar a acessibilidade e intercâmbio das línguas.

FAXINA podcast tells the stories of Brazilian house cleaners in America; cleaning other people’s houses while creating homes of their own. It is a podcast about the stories that get swept under the rug. And on it you will hear Portuguese language immigrant narratives infused with original music composed by Brazilian musicians. You should listen to FAXINA if you want to understand the world better by walking in someone else's shoes. In FAXINA you get to see that these immigrants are people like you, but their world is not like yours - which is both empathy inducing and broadening.
FAXINA, /fah/shi/nah/, is a Portuguese word that means deep cleaning, an activity that requires a deliberate investment of time and energy, much more than a simple tidying up. When someone is performing a “faxina,” this person is physically and emotionally committed to move things out of their familiar places, to create a zone of chaos and discomfort, so that the dust – long accumulated – can be removed. Also, there is inside “faxineiras” (house cleaners) an interior preparation for the possible surprises that they might find under the rug or behind the sofa.
The Portuguese speaking diaspora (people from Brazil, Portugal, Azores, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde) in America is underrepresented in traditional media outlets, as well as in the podcast landscape. The diaspora needs stories that portray real people from the community as multidimensional; real people with all their ambiguities and flaws. FAXINA fills this gap with stories that connect the community linguistically and elevate its voice.
